Energy-plus communities
Local initiatives to drive the energy transition
A NEW DEVELOPMENT MODEL
In France, the Energy Transition Act and new governance models have given local authorities new opportunities. The energy transition will take place at the local level, and local governments have a major role to play in terms of controlling energy consumption, promoting renewable energy, and improving air quality. The energy-plus community initiatives implemented under the Energy Transition Act share one major objective: to reduce their energy needs. These communities are setting the example, experimenting with a new model for development that is less resource-intensive and more economical.
Tenerrdis Commission for Innovative Local Energy Solutions
Tenerrdis set up a Commission for Innovative Local Energy Solutions to respond to two needs:
- Help local authorities identify innovative solutions to the challenges of the energy transition
- Help businesses find suitable testing grounds for their innovative solutions
The Commission’s actions include:
- Supporting test communities and, especially, energy-plus communities
- Serving as a facilitator by identifying opportunities and challenges to rolling out innovative energy solutions in local communities
- Providing training and information to elected officials, civil servants, and other energy decision makers
- Boosting the economic attractiveness of local communities through innovative energy solutions
