A sustainable process for purifying silicon

BORON REMOVAL BY LARGE-SURFACE-AREA REACTORS

The Bresilar project will develop a sustainable, environmentally-friendly process for producing PV-grade silicon. The project is expected to overcome the main hurdle encountered with the conventional metallurgical process, cost, by addressing the removal of boron, currently the most expensive impurity to remove from silicon. The advances made under the project could also apply to phosphorous extraction, also costly, both financially and in terms of energy.

A NEW SERVICE FOR ECM GREENTECH

ECM Greentech, which currently manufactures crystallization furnaces for the manufacture of PV-grade silicon, will be able to round out its lineup of products and services with the purification of metallurgical-grade silicon.
