Embedded intelligence and cybersecurity for energy systems
Enhance and secure multi-energy systems by using digital technology
The integration of smart capabilities into energy systems has been greatly facilitated by the massive incorporation of ICTs. However, efforts to make energy systems smart must be intensified and supported. Additionally, cybersecurity issues must be addressed.
Tenerrdis’ 2022 objectives
The cluster’s goal is to stay at the leading edge of advances in energy system optimization by leveraging innovative digital solutions.
key challenges addressed by tenerrdis
The main challenges to incorporating smart capabilities into energy systems are:
- Coupling AI and physical models: Multi-criteria management of energy grids; optimizing battery cycling from design to management; BIM; energy efficiency.
- Maintaining grid balance amid the rapid expansion of intermittent production and consumption systems (renewables, electric vehicles) by predicting flexibility requirements, managing storage capacity, and developing new means of flexibility (conversion between energy carriers, distributed flexibility for commercial applications).
- Troubleshooting incidents and forecasting strategic maintenance activities to head off malfunctions before they occur and automatically implement self-repairing strategies to improve fault tolerance; perform predictive maintenance.
- Developing and integrating energy-specific cybersecurity solutions: Draw up specifications for new standards and certifications for energy applications; detect fraudulent transactions (energy or financial
RESEARCH GAINING TRACTION
These issues are being addressed by the Ancre and Allistene (Alliance numérique) working groups, for example, as well as by clusters like ECC4IU (Greater Lyon), which bring together regional stakeholders, research organizations (French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission, Grenoble Institute of Technology), and industrial companies (Thales, Siemens, Veolia). There are also groups working on standards specific to security for energy systems (ISO 27001, ISO 62443, ISO 62351, IEC61850). The National Council for Industry’s working groups on New Energy Systems has identified cybersecurity as a cross-sector topic.
project focus
To date, several projects have been completed or are in progress; Opsine2 resulted in the release of the CACTUS software suite.
